The Organisation of Controller of Defence Accounts, Chennai was reborn after the erstwhile CDA (Other Ranks) South Organisation controlling all the PAOs in South and Central India moved from Mysore to Chennai on 13^th June 1966. The organisation of CDA Chennai provided payment, audit, accounting and financial cover to the Army Units and Formations in the entire South India. It has commenced pension disbursement activity with effect from 1.5.1989.

 After the re-organisation of CsDA, two Pay and Accounts Offices (PAOs) at Wellington and Kannur came under CDA Chennai. The Regional Study Centre (RSC) also came into being from 1.4.1998. As it stands today, CDA Chennai has the unique distinction of being a Regional Controller, Other Ranks Controller, Pension Disbursement Controller and Training Controller.

 CDA Chennai organisation has 54 sub-offices spread over 19 cities and towns and has a staff strength of around 900 personnel.
